Why do garden rooms make great gyms?
A garden room has long been a desirable space suitable for a wide range of uses, from office space to studios, playrooms and a hobby room. They are increasingly being used to create space for gym equipment and leisure fitness activities, often freeing up a room in the house and creating the right environment to focus on personal fitness.
Dedicated space just the way you want it
We all have our preferred gym activities and equipment suited to our personal preferences and the way we like to keep fit. A garden gym gives you a personal gym space you can equip exactly as you want, as well as a room to include fitness and fun activities for family and friends. A garden gym private to you!
No commute
Say goodbye to getting up early in the morning to make time for a visit to a distant gym, or missing out on family time by extending your working day to work out. Just step out of your house into your garden room housing your garden gym, and enjoy all the benefits of your own exercise space. You may choose to include shower room facilities, but if you don’t, you have your own shower on hand when you’ve finished! You may even consider the addition of a hot tub for relaxing after exercising.
No need to share or wait for equipment
We’ve all experienced the wait for equipment at the gym. With your own private garden gym, it’s there for you all the time, you don’t need to share and you can work out at your own pace in your garden room without judgement from your peers!
Insulated rooms are perfect for year-round use
Every garden room from Make Room Outside is fully insulated and comes with optional heating packages, so your private garden gym is suitable for use all year round. Throw open the doors in the summer, or enjoy warmth and comfort whatever the weather or season.
Why choose Make Room Outside?
So why choose a garden room from Make Room Outside to create your perfect new garden gym space? We offer a wide range of features and advantages.
Healthy guarantees
A garden room from Make Room Outside is built for quality and longevity. Whether it’s a garden gym or a home office, our garden rooms promise a high-performance solution, with our production process designed around achieving the perfect finish engineered to last.
When you buy a garden room from Make Room Outside, we’ll conduct a site survey first to advise on the situation and suitability. This gives us an in-depth understanding of your requirements and any issues faced by your site and location, meaning you won’t experience last-minute issues or installation delays.
We don’t compromise on quality. Our garden room floors are made using lightweight steel, which adds to longevity. Furthermore, our roofs feature a specialist rubber finish which lasts and lasts, keeping your space watertight and minimising requirements for maintenance.
Built to your specification
It’s all about what you need and want for your garden room buildings. We work closely with our customers to devise the right specifications every time.
Built to provide you with adequate space for your needs, with attractive exterior cladding finishes ranging from red cedar through to composites in a range of colours, your garden gym room will fit right in at home.
Choose from a range of double-glazed windows and door options including UPVC, aluminium, French windows and bifold doors – great for when you’re exercising in warmer seasons! We also offer a choice of laminate flooring.
Garden room electrical and heating packages can also be tailored to suit your requirements, right down to your preferred socket fronts. Take a look at our comprehensive online configurator to see the range of choices on offer.
Cost-effective against the alternatives
Our garden gym buildings are good for your pocket too. Garden rooms offer a far more cost-effective method of creating space than a traditional brick or stone-built single-storey extension. They’re quicker to build and create far less disruption to family life.
What’s more, they’ll add value to your home.
UK manufacturing
Make Room Outside garden rooms are built in the UK too, in our own factory, to the highest manufacturing standards, with every panel individually finished and every component subject to rigorous quality checks, thanks to a process flow system delivering advanced levels of quality control.
We’re committed to sustainability too – you can be assured that garden gym rooms will be constructed using responsibly sourced timber from managed forests in line with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) regulations.
Quick installation
Our installation process is seamless and designed to create minimum disruption to your garden and outdoor space. Typically, your garden room gym will be built and installed within four to six weeks of your order date.
Modular manufacturing, where the garden room is made in sections, means we have total control over the factory build time. These panels are then delivered to your home and built by our specialists onto your foundations. Your home gym is ready for use!
Planning permission is rarely required
Garden rooms usually come under the remit of ‘permitted development’, subject to certain conditions. They must be single-storey, there are restrictions on height dependent on where they are placed on your property, they must not exceed 50% of the total area of the garden space, and they cannot be used as permanent living spaces.
Planning permission will be required if the property is a listed building if it is located in a conservation area or an area of outstanding natural beauty, if it is over a certain size or if it will be located to the front of the building.
It’s always worth consulting with your local planning office to determine their specific regulations for garden buildings.
Groundworks & reinforced flooring
If you’re planning on particularly heavyweights in terms of exercise equipment and contents, then more specific groundwork may be required for your garden room.
Our steel floors are perfect for gyms as they provide extra structural strength, especially with the extra weight from gym equipment. We also upgrade the chipboard flooring from 18mm to 22mm for increased strength when we know the purpose of the room is to create a gym.
Talk to us about what you plan and need, and we will advise accordingly.
Air conditioning and heating
Garden rooms are often specified with bifold doors – great for summer weather, optimising natural light and fresh air, creating the feel of an outdoor gym and particularly good for a garden gym building where you will be working up a sweat! For year-round use, a dedicated HVAC unit might prove a practical option for garden gyms. At Make Room Outside, we’ll advise on what works for your space.
